This is a long program, but watch the few minutes after the 30:00 mark - the more manual a car, the more you’re involved and “bringing all your cognitive resources to bear”, and the more you have to be actively paying attention. With each driving task that’s taken away, the more and more humans will naturally “check out in their heads very quickly”.

Another reason my kids will be driving a car with a manual transmission for at least their first few years after getting their license. My Tacoma has radar cruise - I’d even consider disabling that functionality for a while so that they have to pay more attention and be more active while still learning how to be a good driver those first few months & years.

Lots of truth to that sentiment.

I had a manual transmission for my daily for years because it kept me engaged and paying attention. Absolutely. Now I have a Leaf, which still works because I'm constantly trying to eek out more miles per charge.

I think one-pedal-driving also affects.

Interesting - makes sense. Any way you can “gamify” driving, it helps to keep you engaged.

I was 4 and yet still somehow remember it. Think it came on after Romper Room and The Electric Company, but it’s been a while.

Remember Do Bee?

I should only charge it part way, see if I can make it home. Add some drama
